Lindsey + Jake // Palazzo Lavaca Austin Wedding

Lindsey and Jake are definitely a great match for each other. Jake can seem serious but is actually really fun and kind, and Lindsey is super sweet, patient, and smiley.

They put together a super chic, gorgeous fall wedding at Palazzo Lavaca focused on the things that were important to them. Palazzo Lavaca is a really bold, glamorous downtown space that feels gothic and reminds me of the jewel-toned box of Crayola markers. If you're looking for a spot with a glamour feel that doesn't really look like Austin, Palazzo Lavaca is it!

Their wedding was well thought-out and non-traditional, and they made sure everything was beautiful from Lindsey's black wedding dress to the dessert table designed by Melody's Joy and a doughnut hole tower covered in glazed sugar from Coco Paloma. They both really cared about the details and put forth a lot of effort to make sure the night wasn't just great for them but a fun event for their guests, too.

It was catered by The Peached Tortilla food truck, which is just so good. They always have great vegetarian options and everything is elevated but homey and delicious. Anytime I see their truck, I know it will be an amazing dinner and a great wedding.

At the end of the night, we got some photos of them walking down the street in front of the venue with balloons. I had never had anyone ask me to do that before and it was a great alternative to the sparkler exit. It was just the two of them and they were both relaxed and happy. That's one reason why I love taking photos the night after the wedding or the day after. There's nothing left to randomly possibly go wrong with the wedding and couples are just happy and totally stress-free.

Instead of a day-after shoot or engagement session, they had me photograph their rehearsal dinner at Fixe, a really cool upscale southern restaurant in the city. It was great because it gave me a chance to get to know them and their families a little bit before the wedding.

This was one of those weddings shot entirely with flash, which was a challenge, but I think a lot of you can make really beautiful photos with flash if you know what you’re doing and just take the time to learn how.
