Jennifer + Amanda // The Plant at Kyle Spring Wedding

Part of the magic of Jennifer and Amanda is how they instantly make you feel like you're one of the family, comfortable and seen. All you want to do is root for them and the beautiful family they've created. Their wedding at the Plant at Kyle was probably one of the best I've seen. They made use of all the space and created something beautiful, comfortable, and safe for their guests. Their awesome wedding took place this past Spring, back when we all thought the quarantine would be something that would resolve itself a month or two. Hope all of you are staying safe out there.

Here’s what they shared with me about their relationship:

"Jennifer has worked in visual merchandising for many years and also has a small vintage decor business, Orange is the Sun. Amanda is a boxing coach / personal trainer and a former professional boxer. We met in an unschooling group, we were friends first and that friendship blossomed into something more. We think our greatest bond is our motivation and determination to grow, both as individuals and as partners. We always strive to be better for ourselves, each other, and our family."

And about their wedding:

“One of our shared loves is being outdoors, surrounded by nature. We love the Texas Hill Country, so when our friend suggested The Plant at Kyle, we immediately called to set up a time to go and see it. As soon as we drove up, we knew - it was love at first sight. The history, the amazing architecture, the wildflowers - everything so beautiful and wrapped up into one gorgeous place.

Our friends are truly our family and we knew that we wanted our wedding to be an intimate experience. We have monthly potlucks and we decided very early on in the planning process that we wanted the wedding to feel like a slightly larger version of that, but with cake! Light and easy, but still special. We’re even having a picnic-style dinner on blankets.

We were working with a small budget, so we focused on the things about the event that are special to us. Incorporating our loved ones into the experience was important - the officiant, the cello player, the wedding party (our children!) are all super special people in our lives. We are using a poem that was written for us years ago with “sun and moon” as the prompt (we call ourselves Suncatcher and the Moon) and we used small personal touches like that to put our signature on the event. We may not have all the bells and whistles, but we hope our guests will feel the warmth and loving energy.

For the things that we couldn’t do ourselves, we really wanted to support local as much as possible. We also tried to focus on LGBTQ - friendly, female - owned, and/or POC - owned businesses.

Amidst the current situation, we had the difficult decision to make of whether we were going to continue on with our wedding as we originally planned. We grappled for many, many weeks on whether we should postpone, but we finally decided that we wanted to move forward. We came to peace with the idea that maybe no one would come and it would just be us. We decided we would figure out a way to make that feel just as special. We are grateful to be able to support small businesses during these uncertain times!"
