Kelly + Dave // Inspiring Oaks Ranch
Kelly and Dave met when they both worked as waiters at Perla's on Congress Avenue. She's a nurse from Minnesota and is just the sweetest. She's really welcoming, takes care of everyone around her, and is always smiling. When I met her mom at the wedding, I realized where Kelly gets it from! Dave is from Vegas, works in sales, has a great sense of humor and awesome sense of style.
I photographed their engagement at Sekrit Theater and it was one of my favorite engagements I've ever done. It's always great to do an engagement session first because then you have an opportunity to see what you really want your wedding photos to look like.
They're a great couple, and they're both really good hosts. They planned their entire wedding at Inspiring Oaks Ranch in Wimberley, Texas themselves and I feel like I can see them throwing really great parties forever. They definitely used those event planning and hosting skills they must have learned at Perla's to put together an amazing wedding.
Inspiring Oaks is a great venue with over one hundred live oaks, beautiful views, and tons of space that made it perfect for the kind of wedding where everyone stays there all weekend. There's a main house, a pool house, and a modern barn-like building. The night before the wedding, Dave's best man, who is a chef, made dinner for everyone at the ranch.
Their ceremony was under all the live oaks just behind the main house. Kelly had a gorgeous two-piece wedding dress that was just perfect, and her two twin brothers walked her down the aisle. They did all the traditional things they wanted, including a tree planting and the breaking of the glass, which is always nice, and they gave everyone really cute little cloth napkins with scalloped edges for "happy tears."
Their reception featured a roasted pig's head, a caricature artist, a really comprehensive cheese spread with every kind of cheese imaginable, a hutch with photos of their families and themselves, and these awesome custom kid's placemats with games like tic-tac-toe, their name, and the wedding date on them.
Kelly and Dave really thought of everything for this wedding. I loved that Dave wore cufflinks with the exact coordinates where they said their vows, that Kelly's bouquet had a little charm in memory of her father who passed away, and that her grandmother gave Kelly her handkerchief from her wedding that her mother-in-law handmade for her in 1947!
They had Exodus Sound Company DJs do the reception and they were amazing, as usual. They always go out and dance with folks at the reception and it's not weird, just really fun. They did all the traditional things at the reception-- speeches, bouquet toss, garter toss-- but they were super relaxed and had a good time with it.
They requested to do a big photo of everyone at the reception, so at some point, the DJ invited everyone to the dance floor and I took a huge photo of everyone from the balcony. I love when people ask for that because I don't always get every single person at a wedding so it's a nice way to get a photo of everyone.
Scroll down to look through photos of this incredible day. PSA, you're going to see a photo of Kelly with all the groomsmen and lots of spatulas. I have no idea what it means, either, but it was really important to them! Haha.
