Katie's Bridal Session at the Austin Capitol

Katie is a lovely human and teacher from Russia who recently had a beautiful wedding at Peached Social House. She and her now husband Adam live Dallas, but her husband’s family lives in Austin, so they had their wedding and her bridal session here.

We did her bridal session at the Austin Capitol Building downtown. The outside is covered in pink granite and you would never guess what the inside would look like from the outside.

Inside there are mostly white walls, dark wood, and a huge round atrium you can walk all the way around. I had another bridal session there the other day and she told me to stand in a certain spot in the center of the atrium and start talking. You can hear this weird echo of yourself and it was really unexpected but really cool.

My favorite parts, though, are the amazing stairwells and the great light (as you'll definitely see below).

The Capitol is a great place for bridals. It's open most of the day to the public (7 am to 10 pm Monday to Friday), it's free to go there, and they're totally cool with couples taking pictures there. I definitely suggest calling and seeing when is a quieter time to go, though, because when there are tourist groups there it's difficult to get photos. Try going during the week and later in the day. Plus, if it's sunny out, there are some oaks and other trees nearby where you can achieve more outdoorsy photos if you want some variety. Katie is a big fan of Lana Del Rey and her dress was inspired by one that Lana wore. She wanted something a little moody and romantic for her session, so that's what we did!
