Rosie + Phillip // The Plant at Kyle Wedding

Rosie and Phillip’s intimate wedding at The Plant at Kyle was my second Christmas wedding, the day after Briana and Brad’s ceremony.

They only booked me a month or two before the wedding, but I’m so glad they did! They’re both from Austin and actually met in elementary school. They were good friends in junior high, went to different high schools, but reconnected years later through Facebook and have been together for the past 5 years.

Rosie has an adorable son from a previous marriage, and it was really important to her to include him in the ceremony. Her son walked her down the aisle, and Phillip said vows to not just her but her son too (which was very cute). Her dad passed away recently and she had a chair in the front with a little truck and plaque to memorialize him, which made me feel all the things.

The Plant at Kyle is a lovely, very private venue in Kyle, Texas not too far from Austin. Their address is unlisted because they want to keep it private for their neighbors, so if you want to check it out give them a call first to get the address.

It was a super cold and rainy day but luckily The Plant at Kyle has a covered, semi-enclosed area where they could still have the ceremony. They had beautiful Christmas decor, a Christmas tree, little space heaters all around to keep people warm, plenty of hot chocolate, and of course, mistletoe. It was really pretty and the officiant, Scott Payne (who I had just seen at Briana and Brad’s wedding the day before!) really brought it together. He’s such a performer; he’s wonderful.

We did a few portraits inside, then went outside to the covered area for a few more. It started raining even harder after the ceremony and it’s all kind of a ranch so it wasn’t really feasible to go out to the forest for more photos. We decided to come back a different day for more photos when it wasn’t raining, and I’m so glad we did.

When we came back, we took photos in areas we couldn’t get to before and now they have tons of portraits to choose from. I always try to give people as many portraits as I can without overwhelming them because I know that later, people really appreciate having more options.

Their wedding was small and cozy, with just the people who mattered most there to celebrate with them. It was very DIY, with all their friends and family helping pull it all together. Phillip, who is a chef, and his dad cooked all the food themselves which was just amazing. He made this brisket and all the sides, and it was probably one of the most incredible dinners I’ve ever had at a wedding. It was so good and homemade in the best way possible.

They also had a photo booth inside, which was a lot of fun, wooden blocks for everyone to write messages to them on, and a wine box ceremony that Scott conducted for them. Phillip’s dad also got a really nice bottle of champagne for them to drink, and they toasted over cake and mini pies.

It was just exactly what you want at a small wedding— really close family and friends, and not a huge venue but a big enough space for everyone to talk to everyone else and feel comfortable and be able to see everything.
