Victoria + Jonny // Umlauf Sculpture Garden Wedding
Victoria is super smart and beautiful, and at the time she was working on a Ph.D. in criminal justice at Texas State. Jonny is an engineer. I shot their engagement session at Laguna Gloria, a really cool antique home turned office and wedding venue that's part of The Contemporary Austin. It has beautiful grounds right next to the water and lots of sculptures.
They had their summer wedding at another sculpture garden, Umlauf Sculpture Garden, and were one of the first couples to book me for a wedding in Austin when I moved here. Umlauf is a great venue-- close to Zilker Park, downtown, and everything is outside under this beautiful canopy of trees so you get just the right amount of light. There's also this great trellis there year round that Victoria and Jonny hung lovely streamers from and had hanging behind them during the ceremony.
It was a simple, classic wedding. They weren't too worried about doing all the traditional wedding things and were mainly focused on hanging out with their friends and family. They had a cellist and guitarist play during the ceremony, which was really nice. I think live music is always the way to go, as long as you get people who know what they’re doing and have a chance to hear them play what you want them to play at the wedding beforehand.
I loved the cute wooden cake topper figurines of them and their dog, the little pecan wedding favors with bags that said "love is sweet" and "love is spicy," and the simple, beautiful white hydrangeas and white baby's breath florals. The bridal party wore red, which is pretty rare and looked really great.
