Kristin + Delilah // Fall Wimberley Wedding
Kristin and Delilah are just the best people. Both Austinites, both social workers. They met at a party where Kristin was crying and Delilah was consoling her. Then they got to know each other, and the rest is history. I got to know them when I shot their engagement photos at Sekrit Theater and Blanton Museum, where we bonded over the fact that we both have crazy dogs named after food items.
They had a sweet, beautiful, DIY wedding at Delilah’s old professor’s home in Wimberley, Texas on a beautiful October day with great light. It was big piece of property covered in oaks with a lovely pond that was perfect for their small, outdoor wedding.
I wasn't with them for too long before the ceremony, but I was able to get a few photos of Delilah with Noodle, their chihuahua, and of Kristin getting ready in one of the bedrooms. The house had a bathroom full of plants so of course I had to get some photos of her on the edge of the tub with the plants in her gorgeous wedding dress. Best wedding dress ever- just simple and really beautiful.
Their ceremony was a mix of traditional and non traditional - my favorite. Delilah’s sister walked Noodle down the aisle (this wedding is really all about Noodle in my mind), and Delilah and Kristin came down the aisle together. They did have a handfasting ceremony, which is when the officiant wraps a cloth around both of your hands together as a symbol of unity.
The reception was so much fun. They had Mexican food and a wedding cake made be Delilah's professor wife. There was a dance floor on the grass under the trees and a fantastic vinyl DJ that played all the hits. Kristin and Delilah's first dance was just as the sun was going down.
Kristin's sister gave a speech and talked about how Kristin and Delilah met. She shared how she heard about Delilah for the first time, and then kept hearing about how beautiful Delilah was and wasn't at all surprised when she found out they were dating.
Later, I pulled them aside for a few nighttime photos, which I don't do at every wedding. But if we have time and the couple isn't exhausted from all the other photos (or if it's crazy and they need a moment alone with each other away from the loud party), I like to do them. We tend to get really cool photos from it and it's always fun.
Everyone really pitched in to put the whole wedding together, and it came together so well. They had lovely little touches-- a joint bouquet toss, an instax camera for people to take photos of themselves for Kristin and Delilah to keep, and little Lotería matchbox favors (Lotería is a Mexican bingo card game). They had string lights up outside which always adds a little bit of dreaminess and magic, and the vinyl DJ was just awesome.
It was simple and beautiful, and they did everything they wanted to do. Noodle was also fantastic and obviously the star of the show. Scroll down for a very important photo of Noodle's paw on a bouquet, this lovely couple, and their magical day.
