Hannah + Josh // Malverde Austin Wedding

Hannah and Josh are a really good mix of serious and goofy at the same time. They're sweet, easygoing people who are up for anything, which made shooting their downtown wedding at Malverde really fun.

Malverde is such a great venue, especially for a downtown wedding. It's easy to take a car to and there are a lot of restaurants and bars around if guests want to go out afterward. Most importantly, of course, there's a ton of great light and a beautiful patio that looks out over the city. Plus, it's a venue with lots of personality so you don't really need to add anything other than maybe a guest book and a few flowers for tables!

Although, keep in mind that if you want a sit-down formal dinner, Malverde probably isn't the venue for you, unless you're having a very small wedding. Hannah and Josh went for a taco buffet which, yes, was as amazing as it sounds.

One of my favorite things about their wedding (besides the tacos) is that they designed it to be as low-stress as possible. They didn't have a giant wedding party and made sure that there was more time for the reception.

Everything was really focused on spending time with the people they love and not spending a huge amount of time on too many traditional things that weren't important to them. They did do the breaking of the glass and a Batak ceremony, which was really beautiful. One of my other favorite touches was that Hannah's mom officiated the ceremony.

Her sister, her dad, and his brothers gave speeches, and Josh's aunt did a song and dance to some fun music that really got the party started. I love weddings where everyone is dancing versus standing on sidelines, and this was definitely that kind of wedding.

For their portrait time, we walked around the city and used what was around to take photos. To me, that's one of the best things about having a wedding in the city. It gives the photos a sense of space and time. They're going to love looking back at the photos 25 or 50 years from now and seeing how much the city has changed.
